My favorite things: Dr. Cook Bitless Bridle

Here's my absolute No.1 favorite thing for horses:

The Dr. Cook bitless bridle

Another "So-happy-I-found-it" product is the Dr. Cook bitless bridle! My horse had a few "issues" with his standard Dressage bridle. I won't go into detail but I think the term "deer-in-the-headlight" (combined with backing up rapidly) upon me walking out of the tack room with the bridle in my hand brings it to the point.

So a little over a year ago I did some research and found a select few not so happy but LOTS more very happy riders who are or have used the Dr. Cook bitless bridle. The company has a superb customer service. Plus my horse happens to be a big guy with a petite nose, so the "standard" sizes didn't fit. They let me customize my order by offering the large headstall with the medium noseband.

Not only is he a much happier horse than he was with a bit in his mouth, but doesn't he look handsome with it?

It fit perfectly and I tried it out from the ground first, making sure he would "give" and turn, respond to the reins the way he would have to under saddle. Lunging worked great and to this day I have way better control over my sometimes quite crazy guy when he wears this bridle vs. a knotted rope halter or bitted bridle! I ride dressage and although the term is technically not correct due to the absence of a "bit" but he goes "on the bit" quite nicely, rounds his back and steps under - from a distance you wouldn't even guess he's not wearing one!

I LOVE the bitless bridle so much I just became an Official Retailer! Check out my bitless blog here:
I would have never done this if I wasn't 100% convinced and happy with it. Pretty soon I'm going to continue the ground driving training with my Mini girl and will definitely be getting the driving bitless bridle for her!

If you would rather ride your horse without metal in its mouth, have better control (they can't evade the bit!) and enjoy the conveniences of the bitless bridle (you can tie them with it and they can graze freely while taking a break on the trail plus it's superfast and easy to put on) give it a try! You have nothing to loose - if you don't like it, return it! I know my horse and I are very grateful that this bridle exists and I'm hoping that sometime in the near future we'll be able to enter competitions where the bitless is allowed! I sure never wanna go back to having to put a bit in his mouth!

Try before you buy! If you're located in Central Texas, I will be happy to come out to let you try the bridle on your horse! No obligation to buy!
